Illinois legalized adult-use cannabis through the Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act, with licensed sales beginning January 1, 2020. The market is regulated by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
Adults 21 and older can buy from licensed dispensaries across the state, including the Chicago suburbs of Naperville and Bolingbrook. A separate medical program continues to serve registered patients with qualifying conditions.
Residents and visitors face different possession limits, and consumption is restricted to private property. Cannabis remains federally illegal.
